Let Hicks Family Dentistry Restore Your Smile with a CEREC One-Day Crown
An early adopter of computer-aided design and manufacturing of crowns (also known as CAD/CAM), Dr. Hicks has been using this technology for over 10 years. He is also a CEREC trainer, teaching other dentists to use the system in the best combination of technology and art.
What is CEREC?
Sirona Dental Systems created the CEREC system (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) to fabricate any type of ceramic dental restorations, such as crowns, onlays, inlays or veneers. This technologically advanced system provides a more efficient restoration for our patients.
CEREC uses modern materials to create the new tooth, unlike traditional restorative materials such as amalgam, gold or other metals. The metal-free ceramic used matches the natural tooth structure and color.
CEREC has been used for nearly 20 years, and dentists have placed over 6 million restorations — nearly one every 20 seconds. The technology provides you with optimal functionality and aesthetics in a single session.
How Are Crowns Made?
Using state-of-the-art CAD/CAM technology, Dr. Hicks will restore your smile in a same-day procedure to place a crown. In the past, crowns required two visits and messy impressions. Not anymore!
With our special Primescan digital scanner, we capture detailed images right on our computer screen. We then produce a 3D model and send it to our milling machine to generate the crown.
Finally, we bond the restoration to your tooth, adjust and polish it, and you’re done. CEREC crowns can last up to 15 years.
Why are Crowns Used?
A crown serves to:
- Support a weakened tooth
- Prevent further tooth decay
- Protect the tooth from breaking
- Fix extreme wear
- Anchor a dental bridge in place
- Cover a dental implant
- Provide support and/or reinforcement for other procedures
What are the Benefits of Using CEREC?
- Looks and feels like a natural tooth
- The process takes only 2 hours and one visit
- No messy impressions needed – it’s all done digitally
- No temporary fillings, as it is done in one visit
- No risk of temporary fillings falling out and causing sensitivity
- Less post-procedure sensitivity
- Very accurate restoration as size and placement are guided by digital technology
